The exhibition’s keywords—“relation,” “everyday,” “media.” and “vernacular,” In the 21st century, our society has achieved a structural transition beyond industrialization. In a long-term slow-growth economy, as the population ages and birthrates decline, and depopulation advances in rural regions, greater “connection” is demanded to resolve such problems as “lonely death.” Meanwhile, it is also an age when “always-on connection” using such personal media as SNS and smart-phones has become widespread. We examine the art being produced in such times.
Featured artists include Lyota Yagi, who is known for installations using electronic products; Naohiro Ukawa, the multimedia artist of streaming website Dommune; and sculptor Teppei Kaneuji.
